"Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers- strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength."- Barbara Katz Rothman
- Barbara Katz Rothman
I am ON A MISSION to share the message of POSITIVE and NATURAL BIRTH with the world! The way we bring babies into the world and nurture mothers throughout the process is INTEGRAL to a HARMONIOUS WORLD. So many women are experiencing traumatic births and they CARRY THIS WITH THEM FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.
THIS JUST ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH!!!!
I am so PASSIONATE about helping women to prepare for birth because I believe that this can CHANGE THE WORLD. Women and babies DESERVE a joyful beginning! A positive birth can set the mother and baby up for a beautiful relationship and better bonding. Our current maternity system does not support mothers in the way they need. Women who CHOOSE to get more support (like having a doula) are more satisfied with their birth experience, have more success breastfeeding and are less likely to experience postnatal depression - now that's what YOU want for your birth journey, right?! :)
HEAL BIRTH, HEAL THE EARTH
My role as a doula and childbirth educator is to CONNECT you to information and support so that you can prepare for and HAVE a positive birth. My idea of a positive birth is embodied in the quote above. It is a birth where the mother feels powerful, supported and confident. Every woman deserves to feel EMPOWERED and TRANSFORMED by her birth experience, no matter what course her journey may take.
Whilst I focus on natural birth (and parenting) perspectives, I recognise that "natural birth" means different things to different people. Because of this, I use the term more as a symbol of "positive birth" rather than a reference to a specific way to birth. Besides, there is no "right way", there are merely choices.
I hope that the ensuing pages offer you GUIDANCE, REASSURANCE and INSPIRATION as you prepare for birth and motherhood.
